Network Plus Protection: The latest in network to handset security

Network Plus Protection

AdaptiveMobile understands that complete protection must span from the heart of the network out to the individual devices interacting with it – defending all services consistently and empowering subscribers to take greater control of their own security requirements. An end to end approach to security is critical, enabling the network and its connected devices, operator and their customers, to take a proactive approach to the latest security advances.

AdaptiveMobile’s Network Protection Platform has been designed to provide a consistent policy-based view of user behaviour across all services including SMS, MMS, Email, Voice and Web, allowing operators to identify new exploits; whether these are mobile viruses, denial of service attacks, spam or fraudulent phishing attacks, and respond rapidly to protect their network assets, subscriber privacy and subscriber credit. The AdaptiveMobile Network+ Protection Platform (NPP+) extends through to a suite of handset apps that provide subscribers with greater control over the mobile experience for themselves and their children, protect their identity and personal information from being leaked out to third parties, ensure protection from malicious apps, and easily report and block suspicious messages such as SMS Spam.

Malware Detection

When new malware threats are reported, operators who have distributed the MalwareDetect+ app, either standalone or embedded in their own applications, can be confident that users are notified if they are vulnerable. The subscriber will be notified of a revoked application that is currently on their device, and given the option to disable or delete the application. If sold through an operator’s own app store, the operator has the information necessary to deduct charges from the app provider.

Additionally if the NPP+ detects suspicious traffic (SMS, data) emanating from subscribers' phones, including information that may compromise the user’s identity, location or privacy, the MalwareDetect+ app can be instructed to can ask the subscribers if they want to send pertinent information to the Security Centre about the apps installed on their phones in order to identify the source of the traffic, and be advised of how to block the leakage of personal information.

Subscriber Protection

For some carriers the cost of implementing a fully functional voice and messaging protection service, such as Parental Controls, can be problematic and expensive due to the complexity of adapting legacy voice infrastructure. In response to this problem, AdaptiveMobile has integrated our Personal Protection Services with a suite of ‘Subscriber Protection’ apps to provide filtering and blocking of messages and voice calls on the handset.

This suite of applications consists of:

  • MyProtection+: A downloadable handset application that manages calls and messages based upon the policies set for the subscriber, including personal blacklist / whitelist, time of day and suitable content. Available on Android, Blackberry and Symbian.
  • ParentProtection+: A parent can manage their child’s handset remotely using ParentProtection+, an application to configure the policy held within the NPP+. In addition to updating usage rules, content restrictions and personal protection, a parent can respond to requests from their child to give them access to specific sites and services.
  • In combination, this suite of apps allows Personalised Protection services such as Parental or Enterprise Controls to be launched without costly integration in the network while still maintaining the subscriber interaction, and control of all IP traffic.

SpamGuard

AdaptiveMobile’s SpamGuard app provides subscribers with the ability to quickly and easily report any unwanted SMS message sent to them. It demonstrates the carrier’s commitment to prevent SMS Spam and helps reduce the number of customer care calls made by subscribers complaining of unwanted messages, by also blocking subsequent messages reaching the subscriber from that sender. SpamGuard additionally provides the carrier with valuable feedback from subscribers; such as what they consider to be a Spam message, how much unwanted messaging traffic is on the network and where this traffic originates from. When SpamGuard is used in combination with the Network+ Protection Platform, it provides the operator with a stream of automated SMS Spam fingerprints that the NPP+ can use to prevent Spam messages from reaching other subscribers.
